Countryside Ride To Cesky Krumlov, A Unesco SiteExplore > Czech Republic > Countryside Ride To Cesky Krumlov, A Unesco SiteOverviewThe town was the official residence of the powerful Rosenberg family for 300 years, and beautiful. After earning a spot on the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1992, Cesky Krumlov has become the Czech Republic's second busiest tourist town, after Prague. It is situated about 100 miles to the south of Prague, amidst beautiful countryside views of rivers, hills, and valleys dotted with villages. If you are visiting in the summer, the town almost feels like a theme park with its street performers and music. You may even decide to take a slow ride down the river if you arrive in spring or fall, when the crowds begin to subside. A visit in the winter months is equally attractive, but sends a different message--one full of peace and poetry. It is most enchanting as the castle is covered in snow, and pine smoke rises from the chimneys and blows lightly across the river. The centerpiece of the village is the spectacular castle and its small square, Námìstí Svornosti, almost identical to Prague's square, yet here the size delivers a more intimate feeling. Renaissance and Baroque buildings enclose the meandering curve of the Vltava River, which is dotted with riverside cafes and bars. The town itself fell into neglect during the Communist era, but it has now been polished and it shines again. The restoration has turned the heritage buildings lining the narrow lanes into classy small hotels, restaurants, and shops. The town now has more than 300 beautifully preserved historic buildings and was originally owned by the powerful Baron of Rozmberk. The second largest fort in the Czech Republic is among the sites and can be visited. There is the Mestske Muzeum, a Czech Ceramic Design Museum, the Museum of Torture, and a synagogue with various open hours. - Food, beverages, gratuities, and admissions are not included in the price of this tour. The admission to the castle is $9 per person. The castle is open from May to October. - If you are arriving by river cruise, you can book this tour and expect a pier pickup.
