Staying at Kiwi Paka is a peaceful and special experience. Waitomo is a unique New Zealand rural town and Kiwi Paka sits in the centre of it. The large sunny decks over look the local scenery and you are just two minutes walk from the famous glow worm caves or 1 minute to the famous Curlys Bar. We have affordable accommodation with shared facilities or Chalets with ensuites.

The Kiwi Paka Morepork Pizzeria and Cafe is the place to be. Fully licensed with a great menu selection to suit all so come along and check us out the next time you are in Waitomo.

Waitomo is world famous for its glowworm caves, Black Water Rafting, cave abseiling (rappelling), cave eco-tours and landscapes; Waitomo being in the heart of the King Country is an adventure wonderland easily reached from Auckland, Rotorua and Taupo. Otorohanga and Te Kuiti are nearby and are friendly country towns with, shopping and dining experiences. On the west Coast are the charming seaside villages of Kawhia, Marokopa and Mokau which all have stunning beaches. Waitomo Caves and the "King Country" are in the central western North Island, south of Auckland & Hamilton and west of Rotorua & Taupo. Auckland is less than a 3 hour drive, Hamilton 1 hour, Rotorua & Taupo just over 2 hours.

Undulating green fields, tumbling waterfalls, spectacular rural vistas and, of course, its world renowned limestone formations and cave systems make Waitomo a destination like no other. 30 million years ago the entire Waitomo region lay far beneath the sea. Today, both above and below ground, it stands as a revealing testament to a landmark period in New Zealand's and the world's natural history. It is also a region that offers a multitude of recreational sightseeing and tourist attractions. So much so, that it's virtually impossible to take it all in over just one day. So take two or even a few days and discover Waitomo at your own pace.

Google Reviews

About Google Reviews: recently Google has converted their review system to require reviewers to have a proper, identifiable Google+ profile. This is a good thing, as it tends to cut down on bad reviews, both from people unwilling to stand behind their comments and fake positive reviews from the businesses themselves. Old, pre-Google+ reviews are still in the system, and will appear below as written by "A Google User". More info from Google is here.

Review:   Received a very friendly welcome. Room was nice, clean with good amenities. Feel relaxed and chilled out. Wouldn't hesitate to recommend this accommodation. Reasonably priced too.

Review:   Great showers, good parking, some neighbours can be noisy. Access cards keep not working, can be annoying to get them reactivated. Nice views.

Review:   Good location at a reasonable price all things considered. The chalets are a bit dated now and the mattresses need replacing along with done of the bedding but for backpacking it works well

Review:   Reviews below are, frankly, mostly ridiculously low. This is a fantastic hostel with great clean rooms, friendly staff and a really nice kitchen and lounge area. $35 NZ a night is top of the price range but in fairness for a 4 bed dorm anywhere that's about standard. Wifi is $5 for 24 hours but people need to get a grip, if you are in NZ you don't need to be on your phone 24/7, get out and see the country! As a note to the long review below, I am in room 14 as luck would have it and the mattresses have been replaced - now very comfy! Highly recommended to anyone, great place!
