Private: Valparaíso City Tour And Viña Del Mar With Wine TastingExplore > Chile > Santiago > Private: Valparaíso City Tour And Viña Del Mar With Wine Tasting
OverviewExplore surprising Valparaíso and the fashionable resorts of Viña del Mar! Valparaíso is Chile's main port and seat of the national congress. With most of the city built on the surrounding hills, it is an attraction itself. Nearby you will find Viña del Mar, called the "garden city" for its many parks and well-kept private gardens, which is the most popular beach resort in the country. The drive along the coast provides a great opportunity for viewing sea lions, as well as a variety of seabirds. Explore surprising Valparaíso, from the hills of the old town to the impressive downtown area and all the way to the fashionable resorts of Viña del Mar! Depart from the cruise ship pier and travel towards the southern side of the city. View the old funicular railway as you drive up a hillside for a most spectacular view of the bay, Valparaiso's downtown district, and its adjoining hills. Next, pass by the main square where you will view the monument honoring the Pacific naval battle fought in 1879. Now proceed to the lower level of the city through the commercial heart of the port, where you will take the coastal highway that links Valparaíso with the resort city of Viña del Mar. Upon entering Viña del Mar, you will see the resort's famous landmark--the floral clock. On a steep cliff above is the Cerro Castillo, the summer residence of the Presidents of Chile. Make a brief stop to admire the exterior of the impressive casino, built in the 1930s and set in beautiful gardens. You will also visit the Fonck Museum, where you will be able to view an extensive and interesting collection of pre-Columbian artifacts from Easter Island and the Chilean mainland, including a fine exhibit of Mapuche native silver. After your time exploring the city you will head to Casablanca Valley, the most important valley in Chile for white grapes. The combination of highly permeable sandy-loam soils and the marine breezes from the Pacific coast generate the perfect environment to create aromatic and delicately flavored wines. Your final destination will be a winery that once won the "Green Company of the Year" award and is considered one of the most innovative organizations in all of Chile. From the start you will see how the native animals play an active role in the biodiversity that sustains the land. The tasting room full of organic wines and cheeses will serve as the perfect conclusion to your day! - Although this is a private tour, the wine tastings are shared with other guests at the winery. Please note: Museums in Chile are closed on Mondays, but the tour can still run. - The Fonck Museum is closed on Sunday afternoons. - Please note that some cruise ships dock in San Antonio.
