Segway Through St. Kitts' PastExplore > Saint Kitts and Nevis > Saint Kitts > Segway Through St. Kitts' PastOverviewThe perfect exploration away from the crowds of the cruise ship! The sugar industry made St. Kitts a top location for entertainment and hospitality back in the 1770s. The remains of this once thriving industry are still around today and provide the perfect backdrop for exploration. Often people stereotype Segways as only fit for the city streets but here at ShoreTrips we don't discriminate. Hop on your two-wheeled escort and head off into the countryside as you explore the sugar lands of St. Kitts. In the late 1700s there was one sugar plantation for every square mile and the harvest served as a lynchpin to the island's fortunes. Your first route will take you through Buckley's estate which represents the epicenter of the island's famous workers strike in 1935. Protests by surrounding estates led to better wages for workers on St. Kitts as well as other islands throughout the Caribbean. Ruins from the old industry will surround you as your local guide points out famous landmarks such as the Shadwell Great House. The views from Olivees Mountain will serve as the tour's climax and provides the best possible view of the Caribbean Sea. You will even be able to see the island of Nevis on the horizon. Gazing over Basseterre city below will capture the perfect perspective of the island before you head back to the hustle and bustle of the cruise ship pier. - Please wear comfortable shoes. - Please note that at times you will be traveling on unpaved roads. - There is a minimum of 2 and a maximum of 10 for this tour. - Minimum weight: 60 lbs. - Maximum weight: 280 lbs. - Riders under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult.
