Exclusive Dalmatian HinterlandExplore > Croatia (Hrvatska) > Split > Exclusive Dalmatian HinterlandOverviewAn exclusive introduction to the interior villages near Split. Immediately you will connect with this energetic guide who obviously loves his profession. By the end of the tour, you will also have a wonderful warm feeling about the culture and people of Croatia. Your day begins with lots of conversation on your way out of town. The roads are easy and the driver/guide is generous with interesting tidbits about life and living in this country. You will find the ride very scenic, as you have no doubt heard that this land is beautiful and lends itself to very photogenic opportunities, some of which you will have during the day. As you head towards the unknown, you will learn about the history of the area and how the more recent war times affected this region. Soon open countryside will be replaced by rolling hills dotted with villages. Your first stop will be to see the lakes that resulted from the irregular limestone in which erosion has produced fissures, sinkholes, underground streams, and caverns called karsts. Red Lake is the most admirable result of the karst effect. Originally a subterranean lake, its walls are about 200m under the surface with oxide of iron creating the red color. Blue Lake has the same origin with an interesting viewing stand above the water. A short distance away, you will enter a lovely village where you will visit an old homestead that is familiar only to the locals. This picturesque dwelling has been home to this family for 300 years. The setting, with bridges over a stream populated with ducks and surrounded by plots of healthy produce, shows it is a working property. You will see how olive oil is pressed from freshly picked olives. Local wine and brandy are offered, along with other treats. The best bread in the world will come out warm from the kitchen and, if the weather cooperates, you will snack in the warmth of the sunshine. This experience is not one you will find with a parking lot full of vans and buses. Your guide will make sure that you are comfortable for every moment you are in his company. Usually a different route is taken for your return, offering new views perfect for memorable photographs. - Please dress comfortably. You will be in one vehicle for the day and can safely leave an extra jacket or umbrella in the vehicle during the tour. - Lunch and entrance fees are included in the price of the tour. - Lunch includes a drink, appetizer, main course, and dessert. Meal consists of traditional Croatian cuisine. - For 3 or less passengers the certified guide will also be the driver. For groups over 3, the guide will be separate from the driver.
