Overview
A full day of exploring Singapore!
Begin your day in Singapore with the sweet smell of flowers as you pay a visit to the National Orchid Garden. This select orchid display of 60,000 orchids and over 400 species will infiltrate your senses and serve as the equivalent to a morning coffee. As locals take a great pride in this Botanic Garden, you will learn that famous visitors from Nelson Mandela to Princess Diana have walked these same grounds!
From the gardens you will hop on a bumboat and take a ride along the Singapore river which is the location of the area's first trading port. The waters will then take you to the face of Singapore, Merlion park. Make sure you capture a picture of the famous mythical creature with the head of a lion and a body of a fish! Beautiful views of Marina Bay will quickly teach you why Singapore often uses this location prominently in their tourism promotions.
On your way to Chinatown you will drive through the Civic District and pass the Padang, Cricket Club, Parliament House, Supreme Court and City Hall. Singapore has a population of just over 5 million and is one of the most diverse crossroads of ethnic groups in all of Asia. Once in Chinatown you will explore old and new traditions while discovering rows of streets lined with tea houses, oriental arts, crafts and traditional medicinal herbs. This will be the location of your lunch as you enjoy a famous Chinese Dim Sum lunch.
At Kampong Glam you will visit the Sultan's Mosque which puts on an unforgettable display of architecture with the highlight being a golden dome just about the entrance. This building represents one more example of Singapore's eclectic cultural make up. Keep your eye out for the complex minarets and balustrades which are famously incorporated into most Mosques of this kind.
Your final stop will bring your experience full circle as you enter Little India. Colorful flower shops, energized vegetable vendors and busy curry houses will catch your attention around every turn. If you always wanted a tattoo feel free to approach a local Henna artist who will amaze you with an intricate design!
