Overview
A beautiful full day in Slovenia countryside
Taking a beautiful route from Koper, you will head to the hills towards Lake Bled. This 2-hour ride will be surprisingly breathtaking, as the lake came into existence after the Bohinj Glacier moved through the area. After the last Ice Age, the Bohinj Glacier deepened its natural hollow which gave it its present form. When the ice melted the basin was filled with water. It is now one of the most popular resort destinations in the Julian Alps and a stunning setting. In the middle of the lake is Bled, the only island in Slovenia. The ancient Slavs worshipped the goddess of love and fertility here and it became a destination for pilgrimages, where the Church of St. Mary is located. Mentioned for the first time in 1004, it has become a main attraction in the area.
Once you arrive you will take a panoramic drive around the lake which will include a short walk along the lake. You will have the option to visit the medieval castle with its magnificent view of lake. Another choice would be to take a boatride which will cruise to the lovely island of Bled in the middle of the lake. After that you may take some free time for enjoy yourself.
The tour will then continue by beginning your route back to Koper but first a visit to Ljubljana,
the largest city and the capital of Slovenia since 1991. It is located in the midst of a trade route between the northern Adriatic Sea and the Danube region, creating a lovely setting for this community. The old city will be included in your time in Ljubljana where you will see the most interesting buildings and monuments. Your guide will relate the history of the city as well as the significance of the Town Hall, Three Bridges, the Franciscan Cathedral and the Fountain of Francesco Robba.
If you wish to visit in inside of the medieval fortress, you may do so for an additional entrance fee. But the city itself is lovely and you might prefer to walk its streets and visit some of the shops along the way.
After this free time you will return to Koper.
