Overview
This combination is the best of the island, delivered by the best ON the island!
This combination is the perfect way to experience an island that few have visited. It is known for the protection it has provided its lush terrain and that is the draw here. First of all you will visit Champagne, Dominica's premier snorkeling site, which in recent years has earned the reputation as being one of the top five underwater destinations in the world. The pristine waters of Champagne have been nicknamed as such due to the many tiny crystal bubbles that continuously rise from small volcanic geothermal fissures in the sea floor. Gliding through these bubbles is like swimming in a glass of champagne!
The reefs in these waters are quite spectacular as well; expect to see a myriad of sea life including sponges, lobster, parrot fish, turtles, sea horses, as well as a multitude of gorgeous multi-coloured hard and soft coral. Dry off a bit and then reboard your transportation.
You will enjoy scenic stops along the way as you travel towards the village of Laudat. On the way you will drive through the capital city Roseau and see the Botanical Gardens. At this point you will visit the Roseau Valley and become convinced of the protection that the government has given their tropical paradise. It is truly one of the most beautiful islands in the Caribbean.
There will be photo stops at scenic locations until we reach the village of Laudat, where you will take a short walk, about 15 minutes, to the Ti Tou Gorge, one of the 'must-see' marvels of the island.
A 15-minute walk upon arrival will get you ready for the Ti Tou Gorge, the outlet of Freshwater Lake. There is nothing like this spot anywhere else on the island and, from our experience, anywhere else in the Caribbean. The name "Titou Gorge" means 'Little Throat Hole" in Creole and you will literally swim up the 'throat' of the mountain to a waterfall located inside the gorge. The gorge was formed thousands of years ago and is flanked by the rock walls that provide an intricate and breathtaking setting.
Just another short ride away, through the lovely village of Trafalgar, begins the trail leading to 2 of the island's most exquisite waterfalls. Only a 15-minute walk from where your vehicle stops is the viewing area of the falls. Those who are able to, under the supervision of the guide, can scramble over the boulders to the base of one of the falls where there is a pool for a refreshing swim. You can also find Hot Pools that will sooth any aches in your body.
