Consider the one hour ride into Taormina from Catania part of your tour. Your driver will be able to give you some insight into the area as you travel. Once you arrive to Taormina, you will actually experience the interesting complications that motorized travel has created, as the town is on a plateau and vehicles are not allowed. So your ride up from the parking lot to the level of the town is comicly amazing, like arriving at the top floor of a famous skyscraper!
You will feel the magical, mythical atmosphere spread all around which has enchanted visitors from all over the world for years and years. Settled on a hill of the Monte Tauro, Taormina dominates two grand, sweeping bays below and on the southern side, the top of Mount Etna, the European highest active volcano often capped with snow, offering to the visitors a breathtaking, dramatic and memorable view from every angle.
Visit Taormina, located high on a mountaintop overlooking the harbor. The town is known for its wonderful scenery as well as its position as one of Sicily's chicest resort towns. This is a gorgeous town with a romantic atmosphere and plenty of excellent restaurants, bars, shopping and plazas to relax and enjoy a cappuccino.
You will also want to visit the Teatro Greco, the most impressive monument of the city. Built in the 3rd-century BC, the Teatro is still used today for open-air concerts.
As you walk back to the elevator from Teatro Greco, you will find a famous hotel on your left where you can grab a coffee or a drink and overlook one of Italy's most incredible views.
