The Makena Beach & Golf Resort's culinary team, under the direction of Executive Chef Marc McDowell, is driven by the desire to infuse traditional culinary arts into the dining experience at all four of the Makena Beach & Golf Resort's fine Maui restaurants. Their mantra is "fresh, fresh, fresh" and they have a make-everything-from-scratch attitude. A certified Master Gardener, Chef McDowell brings "make everything from scratch" goodness to the resort by building herb and vegetable gardens throughout the property. Every meal is a momentary expression of Makena's high standards of flavor, quality and consistency.
The casual Pool Bar & Grill offers grilled burgers and fresh from the wood burning oven-hot pizzas served al fresco at poolside. Café Kiowai's delightful morning breakfast buffet service overlooks the koi ponds and Japanese gardens. At Barista 5400, We Proudly Brew Starbucks® coffee in a top-of-the-line Schaerer Espresso machine and serve fresh-baked banana bread, cookies, and pastries as well as fresh-made salads and sandwiches to-go. The next phase of Makena's Beautification begins with the closing of Makena Golf Course for a course improvement program. Plans include for design elements to be true to the natural beauty of Makena, with its kiawe forest, indigenous trees, ancient rock formations, and natural streams. It will remain one of Maui's only sea to mountain golf courses. The re-launch of the Makena Golf Course is expected to be in the first quarter of 2014 as a private course.
