Overview
Taste the magic of Singapore's riverway and diverse ethnic neighborhoods on this half-day tour!
Taste the magic of Singapore, the equatorial island nation at the intersection of three major Asian cultures. Singapore's vibrant character is rooted in its unique mosaic of diverse peoples, living together in an ultra-modern city.
This tour offers you a 360-degree exploration of the history and cultural heritage of the “Lion City,” taking you into the colorful ethnic enclaves of Chinatown, Little India and Kampong Glam, the city’s historic Muslim and Malay neighborhood.
You will start with a leisurely bumboat cruise on the Singapore River, discovering why this waterway has been affectionately dubbed “the river of life.” From this vantage point, you will see many historic landmarks and monuments, including the Raffles Landing Site, where the founder of the city, British statesman Sir Stamford Raffles, is believed to have landed in 1819. You’ll also meet Singapore's fabled Merlion, the mythical creature -- half fish and half lion – located at the mouth of the Singapore River.
As you tour the cultural neighborhoods, originally formed by Raffles’ concept of separate districts for each of the major groups settling in Singapore, history and culture come alive.
Vivid colors and intricate designs of shop houses and temples; exotic fragrances of spices and incense; mouth-watering aromas of street food; glimpses of street-side trade activities and temple worship; and the music of many languages swirling, will burn the complex reality of this amazing city on your senses.
