This great bike trip takes place in the Riserva Naturale Orientata Bosco della Ficuzza, a nature reserve just 45 minutes from the port of Palermo that was once the hunting grounds of the Bourbon King Ferdinand IV.
You'll visit the Royal Hunting Lodge, built with the same comforts the king had in his palace in Caserta, near Naples--although not nearly as large! The lodge was built according to the will of Ferdinand IV Bourbon when, after escaping from Palermo during the Naples revolution in 1799, he was looking for ideal places for hunting and entertainment, his favorite hobbies.
100 years ago a railway passed through this area. Now it is a bike lane from which you can see the forest and the architecture of the bridge and 100-year-old railway station. As you ride, your experienced guide will show the typical plants and animals of the forest of the king's former hunting grounds. As a reward for all of your pedaling, you'll be treated to a delicious lunch of Sicilian appetizer, fresh homemade pasta, meat, salad, fruit, dessert, wine, and water.
