Segesta's Doric Temple, Erice's Convent Bakery And Sicilian LunchExplore > Italy > Sicily > Segesta's Doric Temple, Erice's Convent Bakery And Sicilian Lunch
OverviewThere is nothing like Sicily and this day will give you a taste of the best parts. Included in this tour: • Stop at the Greek Theatre and Doric Temple • Erice for tastes at Antigue Convent Pastry Shop • Fontanasalsa, for lunch at a typical Sicilian baglio • Stop at the Salt Pans As you leave Palermo, you will note the boulevards and tiny arterials that stem off to the sides, all loaded with commerce. We will take you out of the chaos and into the countryside for a lovely ride to Segesta, an ancient village in the Western part of the island. A visit to the majestic Greek Theatre and Doric Temple are a must. They are masterpieces of Greek architecture that still sits proudly among the rolling hills. Another short ride will bring you to Erice, a medieval town famous for its marzipan. Erice is located at the top of the homonymous mountain set 751 meters above sea level and from here you will see the whole Western region of the island as well as the Mediterranean Sea and the Egadi Islands. We will visit the Antigue Convent Pastry Shop on via Guarnotti, on eof the most renowned Sicilian bakeries. After enjoying a taste of the fine Erician pastries first created within the convent walls, you will have a special treat - a taste of the almond dough desserts which are filled with candied lemon. It will feel great to stretch your legs and walk through some of the narrow streets. Walking is the only way to handle this old lovely village. Back on the road, again find lovely scenery as you continue to Fontanasalsa, a village on the Western coastline. Lunch is at a typical Sicilian baglio, a welcoming farmhouse with all the charm of the Sicilian tradition. This particular baglio is an 18th century country villa and has been recently restored and converted into a charming and exclusive property surrounded by palm trees, olive trees and vineyards, There is a wide range of fruit-flavored oils and wines that will make your visit particularly pleasant and exclusive. Lunch will follow some tasting of these homemade products. We will make one more stop on our return, a brief one at the salt pans. A short explanation here will tell you how this ordinary seasoning is still today transformed from sea water and how these salt pans not only result in sea salt but a magnet for all types of wildlife. We return you to Palermo to your cruise pier. This tour includes an appropriate vehicle, an English-speaking driver escort, city taxes, lunch at the olive oil farm, beverages of water and local wine.
