Hinterland Of Palermo And The Town Of CorleoneExplore > Italy > Sicily > Hinterland Of Palermo And The Town Of CorleoneOverviewA tour through the places in the Palermo countryside well-known for events involving the Mafia. There are places in the countryside of Palermo sadly famous for events involving the Mafia and for having been the home of many Mafia bosses now locked up in prison. This tour allows you to visit some of these sites and to admire them for their monuments and for their natural beauty. Begin with a visit the tiny village of Ficuzza. Located within a forest which is now a nature reserve, these were once the hunting grounds of the Bourbon King Ferdinand IV. Visit his hunting lodge, built with the same comforts he had in his palace in Caserta, near Naples - although not nearly as large! You can't miss Rocca Busambra, a spectacular-looking mountain towering over the park. A nature sanctuary where eagles nest, in the past it was gruesomely used by the Mafia to hide corpses in its crevices. Next you will move on to Corleone, a small medieval town of approximately 12,000 inhabitants surrounded by emerald hills and waterfalls. The town is known primarily as the birthplace of Mafia boss Salvatore Riina and his faction, and was home to many terrible Mafia bosses, such as Totò Riina, who is now serving a multiple life-term prison sentence. Visit the Duomo and the prehistoric Museum, and afterwards it will be hard to believe that this quiet place was once called home by so many infamous men. This is a full day with a great driver and licensed guide. The price of this tour does not include entrance fees, which are usually around 6€ per person. Days offered: 7 days a week Departures:
