Half Day Palermo & Casteldaccia WineryExplore > Italy > Sicily > Half Day Palermo & Casteldaccia WineryOverviewExplore in the Old City and Kalsa quarter and visit wineries and participate in wine tasting. This is our custom selection of Palermo's Best! Set out on a wonderful half day trip of Palermo's absolute best. From a local winery to the Old City Wall, you'll see our super selection in this ½ day option. We'll take a lovely drive through Palermo's downtown area and the old Kalsa district which is best described as "an unpolished gem". The city has an interesting medieval history, with many of the buildings dating back to the ninth century. If you appreciate architecture or are even the least bit interested in architecture, you'll love this area. It was one of the first planned Arab localities to be established in Europe. The name Kalsa is translated to mean "the chosen" or "elected". Today, the Kalsa district is going through significant reconstruction as it is literally crumbling. It's easy to imagine how the city must have been back in the day, but many years later, it's in need of some tlc. We think it's very charming and very authentic. We'll pass by the Old City Wall with the oldest gateway to the city called "La Cala" and the grassy waterfront called Foro Italico. We'll also see Piazza Politeama, Teatro Massimo, Quattro Canti aka the Four Corners, which is a famous "baroque" square. We'll pass by Piazza Pretoria, the Cathedral, Porta Nuova, Palazzo dei Normanni aka Palazzo Reale. We will travel out of town to the Casteldaccia winery, which is one of the oldest Sicilian wine-making companies. Tasting of a minimum of 2 wines (chosen by the winery) with snacks/antipasti (like cheeses, etc) for nibbling pleasure while enjoying the flavors of the Sicilian wines. You'll have the chance to purchase products at the winery if you wish. Later back to the port, we'll drive along the stunning Sicilian coast line and stop for photo opportunities if your group would like. The winery is closed on Italian Holidays, the month of August and on weekends. Please choose another tour if your visit falls on these days. Please note that gratuities to your guide and driver are not included. Days offered: Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday Departures:
