Go back in time and stand where the world's leaders held the Yalta Conference!
Begin your tour with a short drive to the Cathedral. Alexander Nevsky Cathedral is situated at the opening of Kirov Street in Yalta, resembling old Russian churches of the 17th Century due to the grouping of its domes and decorative attire. The chruch was built in the late XIX Century - early XX Century to the design by architect Krasnov who designed Livadia Palace and Shapovalov, the interior trim was done after the sketch by Kroshechkin.
After a 30 minute drive your car brings you to a shady bus parking area in Alupka. Walk about 5-7 minutes through the magnificient park to the Tudor 16th Century style northern facade of the palace. The palace was designed by the famous English architect Edward Blore, the architect of the Buckingham Palace. The northern facade embodies typical features of the English tudor style, whereas the southern facade displays oriental decoration and resembles the famous Alhambra in Grenada. A strikingly beautiful Lions Terrace leads down to the Italian Park and the sea. It is hard to imagine a more romantic palace than Alupka Palace with its exquisite and lavish decor and an extensive collectoin of arts, marble sculptures and paintings.
On your route to Livadia Palace make a photo stop at Swallow's Nest Observation platform. It looks like a medieval castle with bastions and battlements, perching courageously at the very edge of the 40 meter tall Aurora Cliff of Cape Ai-Todor. Built to the design of architect Sherwodo in 1912 it has become a true symbol of the Crimea.
Next is visit to Livadia. The Livadia palace is well known as the site of the Yalta conference, 1945, and the very place where Churchill, Roosevelt and Stalin outlined the future of post-war Europe and adopted the guidelines for the foundation of the United Nations. During the guided visit of the palace you will see the restored White Hall of the conference, which is remarkable for its size and refined gorgeous molding of the ceiling, the Czar's Gala Study and the Headquarters of the USA President Franklin D. Roosevelt during the conference. Before continuing on, you will have an opportunity to make a short visit to a sourvenir shop in the palace that offers abundance of local souvenirs and craft works.
Lunch at a local restaurant is also available (but this is not included in the cost of the tour).
Continue onto another attraction made famous by a historic figure, the house of Anton Chekhov. Visit the garden planted by Chekov himself. The great story writer and playwright wrote many of his great works here, including "A Lady with a Lap Dog," "Cherry Orchard," and "The Three Sisters." Remaining in the house for you to see are some of the author's furniture and personal belongings.
