Messina City Tour And Ancient TindariExplore > Italy > Sicily > Messina City Tour And Ancient TindariOverviewA wonderful tour of Messina, followed by an afternoon in the lovely city of Tindari. A mere three miles off the coast of southern Italy's mainland, you will find the "Gate of Sicily," leading to Messina. In the ancient time this area was given the name of "Zancle" by the Greeks, for the sickle-shaped harbour. It will be difficult to imagine that a devastating earthquake leveled Messina in 1908, and that during World War II the town was subjected to several intensive bombing raids. Embark on a tour through the city, including the church of San Francesco and the Fountain of Neptune, before coming to the National Museum, home to a rich collection of portraits and sculptures. After the museum you will continue your tour, passing the City Hall, the Church of the Annunziata dei Catalani, and Piazza del Duomo, home to the town's main cathedral. Admire the astronomical clock, renowned worldwide for being the biggest in the world. After Messina you will continue on to Tindari, the ancient Tindarys, and the northern coast of Sicily. A Greek colony founded in 396 B.C., the town occupies a magnificent position, perched on a cliff high overlooking the Tyrrhenian Sea. Home to the famous Black Madonna, Tindari is a place of pilgrimage for Catholics traveling to the Sanctuary where she is housed. The price of this tour does not include the 6€ per person admission to the Tindari archaeological site. Food, beverages, and optional gratuities are also not included. Days offered: 7 days a week Departures:
