Full Day Tour Of Petropolis With LunchExplore > Brazil > Rio De Janeiro > Full Day Tour Of Petropolis With LunchOverviewEnjoy this full day tour, including lunch in a typical Churrascaria! Rio de Janeiro, the so-called "Marvelous City," is the second biggest city in Brazil. Despite its size, it is also a beach resort, located by the Atlantic Ocean and by the big Guanabara Bay. The city is nestled between mountains and sea, bordered on one side by the blue ocean, on the other by verdant hills. Between them lies a colorful state of mind called "carioca," relaxed and high-spirited. This tour includes: • Round trip transportation in a deluxe air-conditioned vehicle • English-speaking local guide • Petropolis, The Imperial City of Brazil • Imperial Palace Museum • Palacio Quitandinha • Lunch in a typical churrascaria Your tour begins with a stunning drive into the mountains outside of Rio, to the summer resort of Petropolis, also known as The Imperial City of Brazil. This quaint European-like town used to be the summer residence of the Brazilian Emperors and aristocrats in the 19th century, and was the state of Rio de Janeiro's official capital from 1894 to 1903. Visit the Imperial Palace Museum, housed in the former summer palace of the emperor Dom Pedro II. Built in 1845, the museum now boasts the crown jewels, as well as an impressive collection of fine china, furniture, paintings, and tapestries from the Imperial Court. You will also visit some of the city's other sites, such as the Palacio Quitandinha, an impressive building that was once considered the largest casino in Latin America. Gambling was banned in Brazil in 1946, and today the building is used as a convention center. You will also visit the Catedral, done in French Neogothic style and dating back to 1939. At some point, stop for lunch in a typical churrascaria - a Brazilian or Portuguese steakhouse - in Petropolis. The drive from port to Petropolis will take about an hour and a half. Lunch is included but drinks are paid separately. This tour is not available on Mondays. Please advise ShoreTrips if you are traveling with a wheelchair upon booking. Some tours are wheelchair accessible while others are not recommended. Please note if you book this tour for a date during Carnival, an additional surcharge may apply. Days offered: Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday Departures:
