Overview
Get to know the older areas of Malta.
You'll be exposed to a fascinating history unlike anything you've ever experienced before. Soak it up as you travel back in time.
Your guided tour begins in the oldest part of the Grand Harbor and the Three Cities, where we'll visit the beautiful Gardjola Gardens with incredible views from the vedette (a watch tower used by the Knights).
Next, we'll continue to the old city of Birgu, which is a small city that played a vital role in the Siege of Malta in 1565. In 1530, the Knights of St. John first settled in this area.
We'll go into the heart of the city with its narrow alleyways and winding streets. Known to locals as "collachio," this ancient part of the city has housed everything from taverns and brothels to churches and chapels. We'll also visit Birgu's waterfront, which was once lined with majestic galleons and is now filled with gorgeous super yachts!
Our tour concludes with a boat trip around the old harbor on a traditional Dghajsa (a type of gondola). During this short cruise, you'll notice the impressive, towering fortifications, which were originally built by the Knights.
- The cost of the boat trip, €8 per person, is not included in the price of the tour. It is payable in cash on the day of the tour.
- Please note: The boat ride is not private and is subject to availability.
- In the event that there is no availability on the day of the tour for the non-private boat tour, you will be offered a private boat trip for approximately €48. This is the cost for the whole boat (with capacity for up to 6 passengers). It is not a per person rate. This is also payable in cash on the day of the tour.
- Please note that you will have to walk from the ship to the terminal exit to meet your guide, which may be difficult for individuals who have mobility issues. Private transportation is not permitted to enter near the ship.
