Walking Tour Of Paita And Colan Beach DayExplore > Peru > Paita > Walking Tour Of Paita And Colan Beach DayOverviewA wonderful mix of sightseeing, culture, and beach time! This tour is a great way to learn about the history of the region, as well as spend some time relaxing on the beach under the hot Colan sun! Depart from the port of Paita and embark on a walking tour of this old fishing village and town. Walk by the malecon, where you will see beautiful Republican balconies, witnesses of a great era, as well as the Raygada Mansion, an old Republican mansion that is very well preserved. Continue on to the main square, where you will find the Church of San Francisco de Paita de Buena Esperanza, built in the 16th century. You will also visit the church of La Merced, built in the 19th century in baroque Churrigeresco style. This masterful piece of Gothic style contains a beautiful statue of the Virgen de las Mercedes, built by sculptures of the Quito school. Before reboarding your vehicle, you will pass by the old mansion of Manuelita Sáenz, important for its historical value: it is known that this is the place where the woman who captivated Simón Bolivar lived and died. Continue by vehicle to Colán, the small town and beach resort that is home to one of the most important monuments of the history of evangelization in Peru and America. This is the place where Spaniards built the first church in South America, the Church of San Lucas de Colan. The initial structure, built in baroque style, dates back to the 16th century. This old church contains rich artistic material in its main altar, with original pieces and images from the 16th century. Finally, end at Playa Colan Lodge, a small resort situated in front of the beach where you will have about an hour and a half to relax and enjoy the fascinating and charming Colan sun! - This tour includes all transportation and a wonderful English-speaking guide. - Please bring towels, sunscreen, and anything else you need for the beach.
