OverviewSpend a fascinating day in Korea's second largest city, also known as its Located on the southeast coast of the Korean peninsula, Busan (also called Pusan) is Korea's second largest city. Famous for its six beautiful beaches and the visitors who flock to them, it is known as the country's summer capital. This vibrant, steep-hilled port city also boasts a vast, celebrated fish market, a major Buddhist temple, and the world's largest department store among its many attractions! Your tour guide will meet you at the cruise ship pier and whisk you off in an air-conditioned mini-van for a morning visit to the Jagalchi Fish Market on Busan's bustling waterfront. Established in the late 19th century, this sprawling market distributes 30 to 50 percent of the seafood sold in the nation. Fresh seafood caught in nearby areas fills display stands all year round: flopping fish, scuttling crabs, and wiggling sea squirts are spread out aisle upon aisle. No matter the season, Jagalchi Market teems with female merchants touting their wares and throngs of customers soaking up the wonder of this unique market. In October, during the Jagalchi Festival, the number of visitors increases drastically as countless people come to take part in the various events and taste the area's famous fresh delicacies. Next you're off to the Kukje International Market, the largest traditional market in Busan. Steeped in history, the market humbly began during the Korean War in 1950 as a place for war refugees to try to eke out a living, soon growing into a large, busy market. Even today, the area is bursting with an old-fashioned marketplace spirit, similar to that of Namdaemun Market in Seoul. From the market, you will proceed to Igidae Esplanade (Korean for a path to view the sea and the sky, listening to waves and walking along seaside cliffs.) The esplanade along the sea cliffs was formerly part of an army base and was not opened to the public until 1997. It was not until 2005 that the esplanade was built. Beomeosa Temple (Temple of Fish from Heaven), your final stop in Busan, is an important temple of the Jogye Order of Korean Buddhism. Built on the slopes of Geumjeongsan, about 1300 years ago, it is set in a dramatic yet serene landscape, suffused with the aura of the centuries. The temple complex includes a three-story pagoda built in the 9th century, seven royal palace wings, pavilions, three gates, and eleven hermitages. Designated as a natural monument, the wisteria woods and valleys are most beautiful in May. - Please wear comfortable walking shoes and bring an umbrella. - Lunch is not included in the price of this tour, however, your guide will offer suggestions based on your appetite and budget. - The Jagalchi Fish Market is closed on the first and third Tuesday of each month. - This tour is not suitable for limited mobility or wheelchair travelers.
