Overview
Punta Tombo - there's no other place like it on Earth!
The drive to Punta Tombo is 2½ hours each way, but definitely worthwhile for the penguin lovers.
Between September and April, up to half a million magellanic penguins come to this site to incubate their eggs and prepare their offspring for migration. In fact, this is the largest such colony in South America.
Penguin couples stand in front of their nests, protecting the eggs from birds and other predators, and occasionally one adult goes to the sea for food. Other wildlife encountered in the area includes sea birds, rheas and guanacos.
Because these penguins are accustomed to humans, you will be able to walk among the thousands of nests and marvel at this wonder of nature.
- All transportation, a great English-speaking guide, and entrance fees to the National Park are included in the price of this tour.
- Food and beverages are not included in tour cost.
- Note: Please be advised that although the penguins are not fearful of humans, you should not approach them, as they can inflict bites serious enough to require stitches.
