Montserrat Basilica And Cava CellarsExplore > Spain > Barcelona > Montserrat Basilica And Cava CellarsOverviewThe views from Montserrat are as incredible as the basilica itself! Montserrat, meaning "serrated mountain," is a spectacular setting for what is known as Catalonia's holiest location. Your journey begins in Barcelona and your one-hour ride out of the fascinating yet congested city will be enjoyable. Your arrival at the magnificent Basilica of Montserrat, the entrance of the monastery, which is perhaps the most important spiritual and cultural center of Catalonia, will begin with an introduction by your local guide. There are many directions you can go once you arrive and the choices depend on your interests. Visit the Madonna, go to mass, do a little shopping, have some lunch or take the funicular to the top. As this is a private tour, your guide will accompany you on your choice if you wish. You will marvel at the impressive, one-of-a-kind basilica, where the monks worship Catalonia's patron saint--the Black Madonna of Montserrat and the patron saint of Catalonia. You'll also be treated to the unforgettable experience of hearing the Escolania--the largest boy's choir in Europe. Though the area around the choir can get croweded, their sound rises above the masses. The views from Montserrat are as incredible as the basilica itself. There is also the option of a guided tour of the Montserrat Museum. Enjoy some freetime and at an agreed time, you will transfer to a local restaurant for a typical Catalonian lunch, which is an additional cost. The countryside will break some of the spell of the basilica but soon to be renewed as you visit some bodegas or wine cellars to see how Spanish cava is made. Your tasting will follow. - The price of lunch in a traditional Catalan restaurant in the village below the monastery is not included. - Your cava tasting is an additional 15 euros per person. - Though you have some free time and choices to use it, your guide will stay with you if you request it.
