The Ancient Site Of Akrotiri & Oia VillageExplore > Greece > Santorini > The Ancient Site Of Akrotiri & Oia VillageOverviewVisit the excavation site of the Minoan city once covered in Volcanic ash! Visually, Santorini is the most spectacular of the isles in the Cyclades. Your arrival into Fira from the tender port will immediately show you the beauty and obstacles that the residents experience in this town built on the wall of the island. Once you meet your guide, you will move on to Akrotiri. This prehistoric site can be found on the southwestern tip of Santorini and was first discovered in 1967 by Professor Spyros Marinatos. Buried by the widespread Theran eruption this archaeological site has uncovered a very well-organized society that was entering the peak of their prosperity. From three-story houses to impressive works of art, the ancient site of Akrotiri will give you an inside look at a once-thriving Grecian city buried by volcanic ash. Following Akrotiri, you'll cross the entire island in 45 minutes and enjoy the most beautiful town in Santorini--Oia. Built high up on a ridge of red rocks, this former fishing harbor offers breathtaking views of the Aegean Sea. During your free time in the village, wander through the narrow streets as you take in the picturesque shops and unique houses. Upon your return to Fira, you can either take the cable car immediately back to the port or explore the city as you await your cruise ship's departure time. - Museum entrance fess are included in the price of this tour. - Food, beverages, and gratuities are not included in the price of this tour. - The cost of the cable car from Fira at the end of your tour is also not included in the price (about 6€ per person, each way).
