Overview
Visit beautiful Chiana, old town and surrounding areas.
Discover new and hidden areas with the help of your expert guide!
Your tour begins at Akrotiri peninsula, north of Chania, where you'll visit the Agia Triada Tzagarolon monastery. It was built in the 17th century by two brothers who were both monks and had converted to the Orthodox faith. Agia Triada is one of the most impressive monasteries of Crete, set on a wonderfully overgrown landscape of olive groves and cypress trees and with a remarkable cruciform church.
You'll then drive back to the town of Chania to explore around the old town. It used to be surrounded by the old Venetian fortifications, that started being built in 1538, but now only the eastern and western parts remain.
Despite being heavily bombed in World War II, Chania's old town is Crete's most beautiful urban district, especially the crumbling Venetian harbour with its 15th century lighthouse. You will make your way through colorful neighborhoods, learning about the traditional lifestyle in this town.
Your walking tour around the old city and Venetian port will allow you to visit the most important sites (the Archaeological Museum, the Cathedral, the ‘leather lane’ and the Market Hall) but also plenty exciting, hidden spots off the beaten track, spots that reflect the eclectic mix of influences that has given Chania its very unique atmosphere.
