Chania Old Town And The Akrotiri PeninsulaExplore > Greece > Crete > Chania Old Town And The Akrotiri PeninsulaOverviewExplore the monastery of the Akrotiri Peninsula and the beauty of Chania's Old Town. Chania lays at the east end of the Gulf of Chania, between the Spatha and the Akrotiri peninsula. Begin on the peninsula of Akrotiri, north of Chania, where you will visit the monastery of Agia Triada Tzagarolon (Sacred Family of Tzagarolon). Built in the 17th century by two brothers - monks who had converted to the Orthodox faith - Agia Triada is the largest monastery of Crete. The Turks destroyed most of the treasures in 1821. Afterwards, embark on a small city tour in the old town of Chania. It used to be surrounded by the old venetian fortifications (they started being built in 1538), but now only the eastern and western parts have survived. Despite being heavily bombed in World War II, Chania's old town is Crete's most beautiful urban district, especially the crumbling Venetian harbor with its 15th century lighthouse. Make your way through colorful neighborhoods, learning about the traditional lifestyle in this town. - The price of this tour does not include any food, beverages or gratuities. - Entrance fees are included. - Please wear comfortable walking shoes. - Groups of 2 people will be transported in a pre-booked Mercedes taxi.
