Overview
Explore the beautiful scenery of Crete by bike.
To the gentle whir of your pedaling you will explore Lassithi plateau, the largest plateau of Crete - and then continue downhill to Gonies village.
At the foot of Dikti mountain range you will cycle around Lassithi plateau, the birthplace of Zeus and the valley of 10,000 windmills. Although not in use anymore, you will get the chance to see some of these windmills up close, along with the 20 villages that dot the periphery of the plateau.
You will pedal for about 3 hours on asphalt and dirt roads on a relatively flat route covering approximately 19 miles. As you travel, you will visit some traditional villages and of course enjoy the spectacular views and smells of Crete's countryside. When you reach the village of Psihro, you will have the chance to experience a small journey through mythology by visiting the birthplace of Zeus, the cave of Dictaion Andro.
After you have completed your trip around the plateau, it will be time to stop and take a rest at a local taverna in Tzermiado village. Here you will enjoy a tasty lunch, based on the classic Cretan diet. On your way back to Heraklion, you will make a stop at the Homo Sapiens Museum, which invites you to make yourself familiar with human evolution dating all the way back to the Stone Age.
- Tickets to Dictaion Cave and the Homo Sapiens museum are not included in the price of this tour. Entrance to the cave is 4€ per person and entrance to the museum is 3€ per person.
- This trip requires a minimum of 2 people.
