Countryside Sightseeing & Canal CruiseExplore > Netherlands > Amsterdam > Countryside Sightseeing & Canal CruiseOverviewSpend a wonderful day exploring Amsterdam's countryside and enjoy a relaxing canal cruise! Countryside. Canals. Cheese. Clogs. Castles. All of these (and more!) are to be found on this fascinating full-day tour that takes you out of the city and into rural Amsterdam, where you'll discover its many photo-worthy sites. Right off the cruise ship pier you will get the perfect introduction to the area with an hour long cruise through the famous Amsterdam canals. With over 100 kilometers of canals Amsterdam has earned the nickname "Venice of the North" and will leave you wishing you could float the waterways all day. Following the cruise you will drive into the heart of rural Holland as you soak in the inherent beauty of its countryside and picturesque villages. Your first stop will be at the impressive Castle De Haar, nestled in the province of Utrecht, the smallest in all of Netherlands. This medieval fortress with modern comforts is surrounded by water and some of the most beautiful gardens in the area. Stroll around the ornamental waters and historic gardens as you get to see a side of Holland from years past. Next, you'll head to the village of Haarzuijlen, which is home to just over 500 residents and revolves around a trapezoidal village center that stands with a local inn and council chamber. Practically all of the buildings in the village have their shutters and doors painted red and white, which are the colors of the founding Van Zuylen family. Here, you'll dive into some mouth- watering dutch pancakes and your choice of local coffee or tea. Choose between plain, apple, bacon or ginger pancakes! Wander the village at your leisure as you explore this peaceful town just down the road from Castle De Haar. After lunch, you'll head back towards Amsterdam, following the Amstel river. On the way, stop and visit a classic cheese and wooden-shoe farm, situated on a dike out in the country-side. Here expect to taste about 6 different kind of Gouda cheese. Then visit the wooden-shoe maker where you will have a demonstration about how they make these clogs, which are still worn today by the farmers. Don’t forget to take your video camera with you!Sample some fresh gouda cheeses and learn the ins and outs of how they design the famous Netherland clogs. - Entrance fees, food, and beverages are not included in the price of the tour. Additional costs are as follows: Canal cruise: €15.5; Gardens of Castle de Harr: €5; Dutch pancake lunch & 1 beverage: €16. - There is a gluten-free option for the pancakes. - You can skip the canal cruise and spend time inside the castle if you prefer.
