This tour takes you first into the secret areas of Doge's Palace, the seat of the government of Venice for centuries. Your fascinating day of discovery begins in the Doge's Palace, where you'll embark on a journey through the mysterious section of the Palace. The Secret Itineraries Tour covers the rooms and chambers where the delicate work of some of the most important bodies in the Venetian administration was carried out. The tour offers an interesting insight into the civil and political history of the city, its public organizations, and the administration of justice. A specialized tour guide will explain all features of each individual room. Passing through the meandering corridors and somber torture chamber, you'll arrive at the Piombi, where prisoners were kept before the construction of the new prison. The Piombi is the famous prison from which, in 1756, Casanova escaped with his prison mate, Father Balbi. Next, you'll stroll down to the medieval Corte del Milion, by the Rialto Bridge. It was in this area, once Venice's main trading center, that the merchant Marco Polo and his family settled after returning from China. By revealing both the true story and the big lies regarding the two most famous Venetians of all time, this tour will give you a glimpse into Venice's intriguing past. - Please note: In July and August, this tour can be exceedingly hot. There are many steps to climb. - This tour is perfect for families with children over 6 years old and teenagers. People suffering from claustrophobia should not book this tour. - For cruise ship passengers, this tour departs from San Marco Square.
