OverviewPrivate English-speaking driver and transportation for the day. Adorned with beautiful architecture and impressive ancient walls, Lucca also boasts an excellent culinary tradition and many fine places to eat. In Pisa, we'll drive you right up to the Leaning Tower, so you can enjoy the whole "Field of Miracles" with minimal wear and tear on your feet! Lucca is best known for the high wall that still encircles the town. The top of the wall has been transformed into an urban greenspace for pedestrians where you can walk or rent bikes to enjoy the beautiful scenery. Among the many sights that we'll take in are Piazza dell'Anfiteatro--the oval-shaped plaza that now occupies the site of a former Roman amphitheater, and the cathedral of San Martino, which houses Jacopo della Quercia's exquisite sculpture of Ilaria del Carretto that decorates her tomb. Enjoy one of the many fine restaurants serving genuine Lucchese cuisine or take some time to relax, walking and browsing the shops along the exclusive Via Fillungo. If the mood strikes you, stop in one of the local cafes for a beverage or pastry. Half an hour after leaving Lucca, you'll be standing in Pisa's "Field of Miracles," where you'll find the Duomo (cathedral), Baptistery, Campo Santo (cemetery) and, of course, Campanile, better known as the Torre Pendente--the Leaning Tower. Be sure to bring your camera so that you can capture all of these amazing sights!! - Your English-speaking driver will not enter sites with you, but will give running commentaries of what you are seeing and make sure you have enough time to visit each site. - Food, beverages, entrance fees, and gratuities are not included in the price of this tour. - The schedule is flexible. You can spend more time in Pisa and less time in Lucca if you wish. - Modest dress is required in all Italian churches. If you expect to enter a church during your tour, please do not wear shorts, sleeveless tops, skirts above the knee, or revealing clothing. If preferred, you may wear a shawl to cover your shoulders. This applies to children as well. - Please note that on the first Sunday of each month many tourist sites in Italy have free admission. This can often result in long lines. If you are staying at a hotel, it may be beneficial to avoid booking a tour involving inside visits to major attractions on these days. If you have questions, contact ShoreTrips.
