Overview
Welcome to Portofino, one of the most beautiful Mediterranean ports.
Set in a stupendous bay, Portofino is a fishing village with houses overlooking the harbor and its square. It is considered to be among the most beautiful Mediterranean ports.
Welcome to Portofino, a formerly quiet seaside village that is now a must-see destination if you are in this area of Italy. It is beloved for its colorful houses and quaint fishing harbor, among other things. The natural harbor supports a fleet of fishing boats, and for many years fishing was the town's chief industry. It is also well known for the creation of an extremely fine lace, which can still be purchased in certain shops.
Your knowledgeable English-speaking driver will enlighten you about all of the best sites of this charming place, giving you plenty of time to visit the famous Piazzetta, shop at the exclusive boutiques, check out the local church, and explore this one-of-a-kind community.
Over the years, Portofino has been host to many celebrities. The Duke and Duchess of Windsor enjoyed their honeymoon at the Hotel Splendido, the same place where Richard Burton proposed to Elizabeth Taylor years later. The town became so popular that, by 1950, tourism supplanted fishing as the town's chief industry, and today the waterfront is full of restaurants and cafés, as well as chic boutiques.
- The price of this tour includes all transportation and a great English-speaking driver.
- Food, beverages, entrance fees, and gratuities are not included in the price of this tour.
- Travel time can vary greatly due to traffic congestion. In low season with no traffic, departure could be as late as 1:00pm; in high season we will need to allow a prudent margin for the trip back to port (to be determined on the day of service).
- Modest dress is required in all Italian churches. If you expect to enter a church during your tour, please do not wear shorts, sleeveless tops, skirts above the knee, or revealing clothing. If preferred, you may wear a shawl to cover your shoulders. This applies to children as well.
- Please note that on the first Sunday of each month many tourist sites in Italy have free admission. This can often result in long lines.
