Overview
Explore the phenomenon of David, the symbol of the Renaissance.
This walking tour will include a visit to all of the things best known to Florence.
David is considered by many to be the symbol of the Renaissance in Florence and, after a morning well spent, you will have a deeper understanding of the phenomenon of David.
Your experienced and local guide has a background in art and art history, and has a long time passion for sharing her knowledge with visitors to Florence. She has accompanied many people through the narrow streets and helped impart to them the spirit of the Middle Ages and the Renaissance. In a town where Dante's native house is not that far from the workshop of Leonardo da Vinci, it is easy to see why so many have been charmed and fascinated by Florence throughout the years.
Visit the Accademia, which has housed Michelangelo's original David since 1873, when the sculpture was moved from its previous outdoor location on Piazza della Signoria to protect it from the ravages of time and weather.
You'll also visit the Bargello Museum, a building with a rich and interesting history. Built in 1255, it is the oldest public building in Florence. Formerly home to the police chief of Florence (the bargello, hence the name!), it became the national museum (Museo Nazionale del Bargello) in 1865. It is now home to the largest Italian collection of Gothic and Renaissance sculptures from the 14th-17th centuries, including masterpieces by Michelangelo and Donatello's David.
You will also visit the famous Duomo, a masterpiece in its own right, and a dominate feature of the Florence skyline.
