This fascinating walking tour begins with a visit to the Accademia, where Michelangelo's most famous statue,
David, has been housed since 1873, when the sculpture was moved from its previous outdoor location on Piazza della Signoria.
Next, we'll make our way to the Basilica di Santa Maria del Fiore, the Duomo of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Florence. This cathedral, the third to be built in Florence, was the largest in Europe when it was completed, with room for 30,000 people. Brunelleschi's most famous masterpiece is noted for its high, octagonal-ribbed dome.
Our tour continues with a visit to Piazza della Signoria, the city's political center and a true open-air museum featuring the Palazzo Vecchio (Florence's city hall), the Loggia, and many ancient statues. It is a meeting place for locals, as well as tourists.
