Overview
Private vehicle and English-speaking driver for a day.
Your itinerary choices are your own. Stop and start as you like or use your driver for his knowledge of the area, which he knows well.
Driving up the beautiful Viale dei Colli, we'll reach the marvelous Piazzale Michelangelo terrace, for an impressive view of the city. Nearby, we'll see the gorgeous white and green marble façade of the S. Miniato al Monte church, one of the purest examples of the Florentine Romanesque style.
After leaving the church, we'll follow an uphill road to Forte Belvedere, built around 1590 by the Grand Duke Ferdinand to protect the Medici villas. Driving down from the Fort, passing the old gate to the city, we'll arrive at the imposing Pitti Palace, home to many galleries and museums, and a magnificent park called the Boboli Gardens.
Next, we'll head for the center of downtown--the Piazza della Repubblica--surrounded by historical literary cafés, where long ago important intellectuals gathered together. Follow the Via De’Calzaiuoli, which connects Piazza del Duomo (S. Maria del Fiore, the Baptistery, Giotto’s Bell tower) to Piazza Signoria (Palazzo Vecchio, Uffizi), admiring the best masterpieces of Renaissance art and breathing in the magical atmosphere that only Florence can offer. There are also many shops and trattorias in this area, so everyone can find something to their liking.
Your driver is at your disposal and will be more than happy to take you wherever you wish. At some point, you might choose to visit the Accademia to take in Michelangelo's original
David statue, ride up to visit the ancient Etruscan town above Florence with its stunning views, or explore the old Roman Amphitheatre.
