OverviewTravel to Piazza Armerina, where you will visit the famous Villa Romana. This magical full day tour will take you from Catania to Piazza Armerina. Although it has been inhabited since prehistorical times, the city really flourished during Roman times. Piazza Armerina's main site is the Villa Romana del Casale, located only a few miles out of town. Classified as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Villa is home to the world's largest and most complex collection of Roman mosaics. It is also one of the largest surviving Roman dwellings of its kind, and the size as well as the artwork indicate that it was most likely owned by a member of either the senatorial class or even the imperial family. One of the most fascinating things about these mosaics are their detailed depictions of daily life. You will see images such as hunting, people playing music, exercising, and more. Piazza Armerina has many other interesting sites as well, such as the massive 17th century Catherdral, Aragonese Castle, several churches, and more. If you have time, check out some of these other great spots. The price of this tour does not include food, beverages, entrance fees, or an optional gratuity.
