Overview
Spend a full day on this romantic island full of the past and present.
Bodrum is a gorgeous resort town on the blue waters of the Aegean.
Your tour of Bodrum, a charming resort town with magnificent Mediterranean architecture and historical monuments, begins with a stroll through the Crusaders’ Castle of St. Peter’s and the English Tower. Inside the castle, there are small museums displaying attractive works of archaeology such as the skull of the Carian Princess and relics of underwater archaeology.
We'll also visit the site of the Mausoleum of King Mausolus. During the 4th century BC, Bodrum was the capital of the Kingdom of Caria, ruled by King Mausolus. The king was very full of himself and had a grand tomb built in his honor. It was one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World. Unfortunately, the king died before the project was completed, but his sister, who was also his wife, finished the construction. The mausoleum was later destroyed by several earthquakes. The building materials were used by the Knights of St. John to build the Crusaders’ Castle at the port of Bodrum. Today, fragments of the famed Mausoleum and murals which show details of the architecture of this marvelous monument remain.
Your lunch will be served in the seaside fishing village of Gumusluk.
After this fascinating day of discovery in Old Troy, you'll be returned to the cruise ship pier or your hotel.
