Overview
Enjoy a refreshing trek where a temperate rain forest, coastal meadows, and beaches meet.
Haines is a community just 15 miles south of Skagway. Within arm's reach is a coastal rain forest, glacial carved peaks, and a pristine marine environment. This is one of several companies that we found personable, knowledgeable, and anxious to introduce you to the assets of this area.
Your tour begins with a high-speed Fast Ferry ride along the steep-walled fjords connecting Skagway to Haines. Once in Haines, your round trip hike offers you tremendous views of the Chilkoot and Taiya Inlets with the Coastal Range as your backdrop. Your guide will choose hiking distance and pace based upon the group's fitness and ability levels.
Learn about the ecology of the temperate rain forest and the cultural uses of plants as you stroll beneath towering centuries-old trees. Tour highlights include a picnic lunch on a black pebble beach (well known for marine mammal viewing), traversing wildflower meadows, and exploring tidal pools. Water fowl, shorebirds, forest dwelling birds, and other species are commonly seen in this area.
Your hike concludes with an interpretive drive through Historic Fort Seward.
