Overview
Remove yourself from the crowded streets of San Juan and head for tranquility.
Graceful clapping of waves on the white sand beach, fragrant smells of tropical flowers, brilliant tangerine leaves of the Flamboyan Tree, and tranquil ocean breezes will be part of an exceptional golf experience.
Legendary golfer Chi Chi Rodriguez has been an ambassador for golf in his native Puerto Rico for nearly 40 years. But along with Chi Chi's help there exists a plethora of natural characteristics that make Puerto Rico a pefect warm weather golf destination. In recent years the golf has been getting even better. Puerto Rico offers beautiful resorts such as Dorado Beach, with four great courses.
Dorado Beach Pineapple Course, formerly the Cerromar,is the new 18-hole championship design by Robert Trent Jones, Jr. and originally opened for play in 1970. The course underwent extensive renovations in 2005 and is now in high demand. This course challenges any golfer's sand game and offers sweeping mountain views.
The Pineapple Course was designed to be the more friendly course for golfers. The course has fewer forced carries. The bunkers are not as deep and the greens are slightly larger. The back nine of The Pineapple Course consists of four holes with an ocean view, followed by a tough five-hole stretch culminating with a fantastic par four, 18th hole, that finishes up on a green that is just below the clubhouse terrace. For those who seek a challenge, this course will give you all you can handle from the back tees.
The highlight of the course is its renowned 4th hole, ranked by Jack Nicklaus as one of the top ten holes in the world. At 525 yards from the championship tee (500 for non-pros), it's a double dogleg that affords the strong player a reachable green in two shots – if he or she can cross two ponds to get there. Amateurs may take the more cautious path of playing around the lake in a "Z" pattern and pitching to the green with their third shot.
Championship length: 7,030 yards
Men's tee length: 6,196 yards
Women's tee length: 5,528 yards
