Rich in history, the caves can be identified with different groups of inhabitants starting from the Arawak Indians (Tainos), the first Jamaicans who found shelter there, and runaway slaves seeking refuge and smugglers who ran arms to Cuba during the two World Wars.
The central feature of this natural formation is a large labyrinthine limestone cave with numerous rock formations, stalactites, stalagmites and abundance of overhead ceiling pockets.
Green Grotto is 1,525 metres long and 12 metres deep and is characterised by numerous chambers and light holes and a subterranean lake - the Grotto Lake - occupies its bowels.
Your last destination on this tour is Columbus Park, a small park overlooking the Caribbean Sea, it consists of ruins of buildings from the early Spanish colonial period and interesting artifiacts from early Jamaican life.
