Overview
Immerse yourself in the lush, natural wonders of Dominica.
Your expert guide will transport you on an inland road to Trafalgar Falls. Along the way, you'll have the good fortune to pass through the Botanical Gardens, a 40-acre garden located on the site of a former sugar cane field. It thrives on about 85 inches of rain per year and you'll find it very lush. For the same reason, you'll appreciate your ride through the Roseau Valley.
Enjoy scenic stops as you travel towards the village of Laudat. Upon arrival, you'll embark on a 15-minute walk to Ti Tou Gorge, the outlet of Freshwater Lake. There is nothing like this spot anywhere else on the island or, from our experience, anywhere else in the Caribbean.
The name "Titou Gorge" means "Little Throat Hole" in Creole and it accurately describes this place. You'll have fun wading, swimming, slipping, and sliding up the "throat" of a mountain to a waterfall located inside the gorge. The gorge was formed thousands of years ago and is flanked by the rock walls that provide an intricate and breathtaking setting.
Following this amazing experience, you'll hop back into your transport and head to the second portion of your tour, the luscious Trafalgar Falls. A short stroll will bring you to the viewing spot to see the best angle of these falls. If you're adventurous, your expert guide, at his discretion, may take you scrambling over the boulders to the base of one of the falls, where you'll find an inviting pool for swimming. Please note that this will depend on weather conditions and the guide's assessment of whether or not it is safe to do the climb on that day. He may also choose to take you to the natural hot springs (over 104 degrees Fahrenheit) before returning to the starting point of the tour.
