Overview
Travel to a Carib Indian Village for a genuine native experience.
Dominica is the only island where the indigenous Caribs have survived, and continue to live together as a group in their own community. Your guide will teach you all about the lives of these proud and noble people who once ruled the entire Eastern Caribbean.
After departing Cabrits, you'll travel up the lush coast to the Carib Indian Village of Kalinago Barana Aute for an authentic native experience. This village offers a unique glimpse into the history and traditions of the Kalinago people from hundreds of years ago. It is a world of color and pagentry, where the nation's first people's pride is still very much evident.
A series of small huts are located throughout the site, where you may witness such traditional activites as canoe building, cassava processing, basket weaving, calabash carving, and herb collection and preparation. Demonstrations by local artisans, storytelling through cultural performances, and genuine interaction with the people of the Carib Territory will contribute to your unique experience in the Kalinago Barana Aute village.
The remainder of the trail throughout this intriguing village offers scenes of the impressive Atlantic Coastline. You'll also have the opportunity to visit the majestic Isulukati Waterfall that cascades into the ocean's waters.
After the tour, you'll have the option of enjoying a local lunch (additional cost) while taking in the stunning panorama of the East Atlantic Coast.
- We suggest that you wear comfortable walking shoes, a hat, sunglasses and sunblock.
- You will have the opportunity to purchase a local lunch at the end of the tour (not included in the price of the tour).
