Indian River Boat Trip, Cabrits National Park, & RainforestExplore > Dominica > Cabrits > Indian River Boat Trip, Cabrits National Park, & Rainforest
OverviewTake a rowboat up the Indian River and visit Cabrits National Park and Syndicate Rainforest. Your tour begins as your guide drives you along the West Coast to the island's second-largest city, Portsmouth. From here, you'll board a rowboat and embark on a memorable ride up the famous Indian River. A rowboat is the perfect means of transportation on this serene waterway, and will ensure that the most peaceful atmosphere is present during your magical journey. The lush vegetation along the banks will follow you as you wind your way along the lazy path of the river. The mangrove-fringed river is resplendent with various forms of wildlife, including herons, kingfishers, and the occasional iguana. At the end of the river, there is a bush bar where you may stop for a quick drink, if you wish. After your boat ride, you'll visit Cabrits National Park. Here, you'll find an 18th century Garrison that was abandoned as a military post in 1854 and, as a result, taken over by the forces of nature. Recent restoration has greatly improved the appearance of the Park, and new hiking trails have been opened as well. Next, you'll be driven to the Syndicate Rainforest, located at the foothills of Morne Diablotin, the highest mountain on the island. Well-maintained trails pass through some of Dominica's most impressive oceanic rain forest with its dense canopy of vegetation and wildlife. Be sure to keep an eye out for the island's two endangered species of parrots--the Sisserou and the Jacquot--while exploring the rain forest. - We suggest that you wear comfortable walking shoes, sunglasses, a hat and sunblock. - The National Park fee of $9 is not included in the price of this tour.
