Overview
Explore the East Coast of this intriguing island!
On this tour you will:- Betty's Hope Sugar Estate
- Devil's Bridge
- Long Bay
- Swimming/beach opportunity
Your trip begins at Betty's Hope Sugar Estate. One of the oldest sugar plantations, Betty's Hope dates all the way back to 1651. Restoration began in 1990, making this plantation one of the few where one of the two sugar mill towers has been fully restored - complete with sails.
The next stop is Devil's Bridge, a natural area that is a remarkable example of sea-water erosion. When a soft part of limestone was eroded by the Atlantic Ocean, a bridge was geologically created. The foaming breakers below and the nearby natural blow hole that periodically send out a vertical spray of seawater and air are an impressive sight.
Before heading back to St. John, you will travel to Long Bay, the second largest beach on the island, and a true hidden gem. Long Bay is the perfect place to enjoy pristine white sand and turquoise water.
Don't forget to bring sunscreen, a towel, and your swimsuit!
At Betty's Hope there is a donation box for US$2.00 for restoration and the upkeep of the premises.
