Overview
Located on the famous Homer Spit on the Bear Country Boardwalk,
Boardwalk Bakery creates everything in house and from scratch, providing you with the freshest breakfasts, lunches and delicious baked goods.
Boardwalk Bakery is the result of a dream that began in 1998 when Jackie Johnson traveled to Homer for the first time. She was immediately taken with the eclectic atmosphere of this little fishing village. As she stood on Skyline Drive looking down at the famous Homer Spit and across at the beautiful snow-capped mountain range, Jackie knew that someday this would be a place where her soul would find comfort. It was ten years later, 2008, before Jackie would come back to Homer. On that trip she discovered a quaint little bakery on the Spit with a ""For Sale"" sign on it. After great contemplation, many prayers and a leap of faith, Jackie left her life in San Antonio, Texas behind and headed for the great state of Alaska.
Boardwalk Bakery opened its doors on May 1, 2009 with a new owner. At the end of May, Jackie''s mom, Doris, came to spend a couple of months. She was a valuable assistant. The first year w ould not have been successful without her. In August of the same year, Jackie''s sisters, Kathy and Robin, came for a visit. Kathy quickly became a fan of the Boardwalk Bakery and Homer. A week later when it was time to leave, it was difficult for her to get on the plane.
While the bakery was closed during the fall and winter months, Jackie talked seriously to Kathy about joining her in this great bakery adventure. Eventually, Kathy quit her job of over 20 years and became a partner in the bakery. She quickly learned all of the tricks of the trade and added a great enhancement to the business.
Boardwalk Bakery is not only an example of "living the dream", it is also a story of close family relationships. Come to Homer and drop in at the Boardwalk Bakery to meet Jackie and Kathy. – Have breakfast, lunch or one of their famous cinnamon rolls. You won't be disappointed.
