Overview - Hotel Colon. Copyright Hotel Colon. Just a spacer

A perfectly central hotel in Barcelona, Spain, Colon Hotel is situated just in front of the main façade of the Cathedral, only 5 minutes away from Plaza Catalunya and the Port of Barcelona.

The Colon is an open doorway to the Gothic district, the most traditional district of Barcelona, where guests will find fine dining, as well as some of the main attractions, museums and monuments.

The Colon Hotel was founded by Don Antonio Lamaro in 1920, who was responsible for the construction of the Colon Hotel in 1951 and the Regencia Colon Hotel in 1957, due to the fact that at that time there was an important lack of hotels in Barcelona.

He had the chance to acquire a very well placed plot of land in front of the Cathedral of the city, just a few steps away from Las Ramblas and the Port of Barcelona, and make his personal initiative come true. Some people say that this was the result of his annoyance, when on one occasion he could not find a room in his habitual hotel in Barcelona.

Pros: This is my favorite hotel in Barcelona. It has the best location....right in front of the cathedral in the Gothic Quarter. IT is where you want to be in Barcelona. The standard rooms are usually not with an exterior view so upgrade to the superior. The hotel is classic luxury and a great value. The staff are extremely helpful. The breakfast is terrific....I love the fresh squeezed orange juice! Rooms are very quiet.

Cons: The standard rooms are a bit small and no views. And this hotel books up way, way in advance! Not a place for kids.
