Google Reviews

About Google Reviews: recently Google has converted their review system to require reviewers to have a proper, identifiable Google+ profile. This is a good thing, as it tends to cut down on bad reviews, both from people unwilling to stand behind their comments and fake positive reviews from the businesses themselves. Old, pre-Google+ reviews are still in the system, and will appear below as written by "A Google User". More info from Google is here.

Review:   The location of The Great Southern Hotel is ideal for all travellers because of its closeness to a variety of restaurants, city activities and the Treasury Casino. When looking for the hotel in a car, it is easy to find. There is parking available (first in, first serve rule) for $25 a night. There is limited parking due to the ongoing construction. The reception is easy to locate and the staff who served us where friendly and efficient. To stray at the hotel, you need a $100 security deposit. There is an elevator available for guest use. The room (we stayed in 1103), was large enough for a reasonable night sleep. We stayed in the 2 King Zip Room. The room upon entry was clean and tidy. The beds had fresh blankets, however, only one pillow for each bed. The air conditioner worked well. The room has all the amenities required for a good night stay – tea and coffee making equipment, toiletries and towels. The view we got was of the Brisbane River and the construction site. Currently, it is a good view, hopefully the new building does not ruin this. Overall, a very good hotel to stay at which I would highly recommend.

Review:   I have stayed in many hotels in Brisbane in the same area, similar prices, but this is the first hotel that has held on the $100.50 deposit that you pay on arrival, that hasn't released that money very soon after departure. It's 3 days since we left and that money is still on hold and can't get it. When I contacted them I was told I could wait for 10 days. I acknowledge I signed a document accepting this, but NEVER have I had to wait such a long for this money. Just a warning to fellow guests. It wasn't a very good hotel anyway I wouldn't recommend this hotel to anyone.

Review:   Nice place. Restaurant at the bottom is well priced and tasty too. It's adjacent to a lot of nice restaurants and beer gardens. Ideal for those travelling on a budget.

Review:   Absolutely discusting. One of the worst place's I have stayed in and I have stayed in a few. Staff were friendly and helpful but the room was disgusting. Hair on the roof, on the so called clean linen, all over the floor. Mould in the bathroom all over the shower walls and when you tried to flush the toilet it stuck, so it was constantly running for over an hour till you could right it. The pool needs to be cleaned and retiled. The only thing it had going for it was the view of South Bank, but that will be going soon due to redevelopment.
