Heron Island is a true coral cay, located right on the Great Barrier Reef. A place of stunning natural beauty, it has
sugar-white sands, crystal clear waters and acres of brilliant coral with colourful marine life.

At this World-Heritage listed marine national park, all flora and fauna is protected, so the island is a nature lover's
paradise, where the emphasis is on enjoying natural beauty.

An Introduction to Heron Island

Video #1 of 1

If you're a nature lover, Heron Island really is a special place. It's a natural coral cay 89kms off the coast of Queensland, so it's not another Great Barrier Reef resort, it's a resort on the Great Barrier Reef. You don't have to take any special boat trips to experience one of the wonders of the world. The reef, with a myriad of colourful coral and reef fish, is right there, at your fingertips, right off the beach.

In the crystal clear aquamarine waters surrounding the island, stunning coral gardens and sea creatures great and small flourish in abundance and colour. They make Heron Island a natural place for divers, swimmers, and people who love to snorkel. The resort also offers an array of choices for those who like to explore and laze on beaches far from crowds, with no reef "day-trippers" to spoil the peace and quiet.

Google Reviews

About Google Reviews: recently Google has converted their review system to require reviewers to have a proper, identifiable Google+ profile. This is a good thing, as it tends to cut down on bad reviews, both from people unwilling to stand behind their comments and fake positive reviews from the businesses themselves. Old, pre-Google+ reviews are still in the system, and will appear below as written by "A Google User". More info from Google is here.

Review:   Gorgeous small island. Great views and walks, awesome wildlife and the amenities are adequate. The food is a little bit expensive, as well as the actual accommodation, but all in all, a great experience .

Review:   Fantastic island. Wonderfully unspoilt. Amazing snorkelling. Friendly helpful staff. Evening meals were a huge disappointment and of a very low standard and so expensive. Hope the new owners can improve the catering. However we would still go back but just take some food of our own.

Review:   Highly recommended if you want to get away from the daily hassles of life and just spend relaxing in middle of an ocean with great views, awesome underwater experience and among one of the world's natural wonders. Restaurant was a bit expensive and food not that great with limited options. Staff was super friendly - shout out to Arun, the manager at Heron Islands who was very helpful.

Review:   Fantastic place to spend a couple of weeks. You must also go overnight on Wilson Island for the experience. The marine research/university is interesting and I enjoyed stroking the sharks from the beach.
