Google Reviews

About Google Reviews: recently Google has converted their review system to require reviewers to have a proper, identifiable Google+ profile. This is a good thing, as it tends to cut down on bad reviews, both from people unwilling to stand behind their comments and fake positive reviews from the businesses themselves. Old, pre-Google+ reviews are still in the system, and will appear below as written by "A Google User". More info from Google is here.

Review:   Castaways sits quietly on the edge of The Mission Beach Village precinct, being a 2-3 minute stroll to shops and markets. The restaurant/bistro area is well positioned providing many a view of the water and the beachfront. And the food is great too. Rooms are dated but rumour has it they are about to double in size.

Review:   Lovely place, good views, nice food - only downfall is there is an area of pool on the restaurant side of the pool fence that patrons are not allowed to swim in unless ordering food from a certain menu (even though our bill was quite high from what was ordered by us) - it is very difficult to explain to young kids (like ours) that they cannot sit in the water like the kids on the other side of the fence & we found our kids drawn to the water as it was right next to our table which made our entire experience unpleasant as we had to keep encouraging them away from the water instead of enjoying our time there. For this reason I would only consider going there without our kids. RATING: Purely on the restaurant, I would rate it 5 star without taking young kids and 1 to 2 with taking young kids. My husband has stayed there overnight for a few nights prior to this and would rate it 5 star (went without kids).

Review:   Grim. Note that this is a review of the Rainforest rooms not the main hotel. A truly awful place. It feels like an old 1960s(?) style motel and is actually located 500 meters from the main hotel site. White painted concrete block walls with tired and dated fittings. The "terrace/sitting area" outside the room (in our case next to the bins) was the last place you'd want to sit. Thank goodness we were only here one night. The only place on a 3 week road trip where the receptionist didn't ask "how was your stay" when we checked out. Presumably because they knew what response to expect. To be fair the main hotel seemed really nice. It had a lovely view towards the beach. The Rainforest rooms devalue the Castaways brand. My personal advice it to avoid this place like the plague.

Review:   Our travel agent had booked the rainforest room for us. I'm not sure why Castaways want this run down, dated old motel block associated with their name. Room was bare white breeze block with two bland, dated prints on the wall. Bathroom was definitely 1960's public toilet inspired decor. No lids on bins. Horrible plastic chairs outside room 'terrace' that was next to a bin store. The pool was neglected and 2 white plastic loungers were very dirty ( more than just a day's leaves). Room was clean and air conditioner did something. Room definitely on the very basic level and not what we were expecting for a Castaways branded booking.

Review:   Great atmosphere and menu! The Morton bay bugs were delicious and surprisingly well priced. If you’re looking for a memorable gathering, book a table here!
