Google Reviews

About Google Reviews: recently Google has converted their review system to require reviewers to have a proper, identifiable Google+ profile. This is a good thing, as it tends to cut down on bad reviews, both from people unwilling to stand behind their comments and fake positive reviews from the businesses themselves. Old, pre-Google+ reviews are still in the system, and will appear below as written by "A Google User". More info from Google is here.

Review:   Nice room and pool area. Short, flat walk to the main street (1 block) and beach (2 blocks). Unfortunately major building construction has been going on all week from 8am to 5pm. The sound from heavy machinery scrapping and pile driving which penetrates walls and sometimes shakes the concrete floor It would appear this work is going to continue for a few months. If you are staying in the future, ask for a room on north end to minimise the disruption. Lucky there is heaps to do in the Port Douglas area, so we were rarely at the resort. But it is disappointing when you want to relax by the pool at the end of the day.

Review:   The studio room was the perfect size for our four day stay. The apartment was in the perfect location with a short walk to the restaurants, supermarket and beach. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful. The resort itself was beautiful and exactly what we'd been hoping for, the perfect place to de-stress and relax. Loved being able to walk straight from our room into the pool. Will definitely stay again and highly recommend!

Review:   While the accommodation was beautiful, the staff at reception were unaccommodating and rude. A friend and I were staying together and had requested separate beds, however were provided 1 King bed. Rather than trying to help us the staff member blamed the 'agent' we booked through and told us to take it up with them. They were fully booked for the night and when we asked if we could be moved after that, we were told we would be charged for this. There was no apology or attempt to help us out. As a regular Port Douglas visitor, I will not be staying at Shantara again, given the poor service.

Review:   One word - fabulous! We booked Shantara for a last minute trip to Port Douglas for the first week of the new year. We were initially just happy to have found availability during that week for such a reasonable price but we were also lucky enough to secure a pool deck studio room. We were excited about the beautiful rooms, the ease of access to the pool and the fact that it was adults only as we were looking for some quiet time together. Shantara exceeded our expectations as soon as we arrived. It was only 10:30am but our room was ready and the air conditioner was on, waiting for our arrival on a hot day. The room itself was lovely – very clean and bright, with a surprisingly large bathroom and shower recess for a studio apartment. The room was also practical for a stay at a hotel without a restaurant – with a fridge, sink and microwave. The hotel also provides you with lots of thoughtful inclusions to make your stay easier, such as glassware (and plastic for use in the pool area), plates, toaster, kettle, utensils, ironing board, hair dryer etc. It really had everything we needed to stay far longer than our 3 night stay allowed us. The pool was so nice – heated but still lovely and cool to slip into on a hot day – right off our deck! It was an easy walk into town – less than 5 minutes to walk to the main street and 10 minutes to walk to the Marina. We really loved the Shantara and sincerely hope we have the chance to stay again soon. Thank you! Sarah and Graham
