Half Day Discover Rhodes...A Value Shared TourExplore > Greece > Rhodes > Half Day Discover Rhodes...A Value Shared TourOverviewDiscover Rhodes on this Half Day guided tour! You will be met at the port of Rhodes by your English-speaking professional guide who will guide you to your air-conditioned transportation, ready to begin your tour. Your half day island tour will begin with a panoramic drive to Mandraki Harbour, which was the military port of ancient Rhodes. At the entrance to the harbor you will see two statues of deer, Elafos and Elafina, which are symbols of the island. They occupy columns where it is believed that the Colossus of Rhodes once stood. The harbor is also home to three medieval windmills (which ground the grain unloaded from merchant vessels) and the Public Administration buildings. Opposite Mandraki Harbour you'll see the New Market Hall (Nea Agora) which is a long, white building with a magnificent entrance and houses coffee shops, snack bars and gift shops in addition to local produce. Your tour will continue to the Monte Smith, the large park where the Acropolis of Rhodes is situated. The partially-excavated Acropolis dates from the Classical Greek period and you'll see the tumbled massive pillars of the temple of Athena, the Temple of Apollo, the stadium of Diagoras and the port. The tour will then take you into the Old Town of Rhodes, the oldest inhabited medieval town in Europe. You'll enter the fortified city through the Amboise Gate and walk to the Grand Master Palace, a medieval castle which is one of few examples of Gothic architecture in Greece. Pass medieval towers and marvel at the over 600 yards long -Street of the Knights, one of the best-preserved and most delightful medieval relics in the world. With about an hour of free time to spare, you will be able to take time to relax in this beautiful town and spend time in the small shops that sell everything from handmade jewelry and fine leather to handicrafts and souvenirs. You will then return back to the port in plenty of time for your cruise ships departure. - Comfortable walking shoes are recommended. - We recommend that you bring sunscreen, hat, and bottled water as it gets extremely hot at times. - Food, beverages, and gratuities are not included. - Entrance fees are included for Grand Master Palace. - Guided tour is approximately 3 hours, with 1 hour of free time in Old Town Rhodes. - A portion of this tour is a walking tour which covers up to one mile, and will involve some inclines, and uneven surfaces. - This tour is not suitable for wheelchairs users since the sites do not have wheelchair access. - This tour requires a minimum of 4 participants for all cruise ships.
